Mayor Fitter and city staff discussed a conceptual North–South Corridor east of I‑65 that would connect June Lake Boulevard to Duplex Road and guide development inside the city’s urban growth boundary. The corridor has been championed by Vice Mayor Linville and is intended to set a spine road and right-of-way before development occurs.
Staff said the Corradino Group previously prepared a preliminary alignment and conceptual layout with an estimated cost of “just under a hundred and sixty thousand” dollars. The board asked staff to ask Mr. Bolden to update the estimate and bring options back for discussion, including whether the work should be combined with any move from a municipal to a regional planning commission or with sewer‑infrastructure planning for the same area.
Public‑works staff noted the interceptor/sewer layout under consideration would initially serve the interchange area east of I‑65 and that terrain eastward toward Lewisburg may require pump stations rather than a continuous gravity sewer. Staff said knowing the road alignment helps plan sewer crossings and long‑term utility routing.
Why this matters: setting a corridor alignment early can reduce future costs, help secure rights of way and guide coordinated utility and road design as the city plans for growth east of I‑65.
