South River Board approves graduation-data addendum, nursing plan, grade reconfiguration and final bus drills

SOUTH RIVER, N.J. — The South River Board of Education on April 22 approved a consent resolution that adopted several routine instructional and safety items, including an addendum to district graduation data from the state NJ SMART system, the district’s annual nursing plan, a formalized grade reconfiguration for primary and elementary schools, corrective-action plans on chronic absenteeism and the final 2024–25 bus drill.
Board members heard the data addendum from Dr. Zircher, who said the addendum supplements an earlier district data report presented by Dr. Trevisano in September and shows how students met graduation requirements through alternate measures. “You will see our percentages are extremely high. Really over 94 percent of our students are graduating with that, first pathway, which is the preferred method,” Dr. Zircher said, referring to the primary state assessment pathway recorded in NJ SMART.
The board’s instruction committee recommended approval of items 4.1 through 4.3, which the committee chair, Mrs. Busch, described as routine and scheduled for annual or continuing review. Mrs. Busch said the chronic-absenteeism plans consolidate attendance data and the climate-and-culture team’s strategies for each building and will be posted for public view on the district website. In safety and risk management, Mrs. Yang Yao presented item 5.1 to approve the district’s bus drills for 2024–25; she described it as the final bus drill of the year.
Business Administrator Rosa read the consent-resolution language, which bundled routine and noncontroversial items for one vote. Vice President Nielsen moved the consent resolution; Mr. Bezak seconded. By voice vote the board approved the motion. The board noted compliance with the New Jersey Open Public Meetings Act, Chapter 231, Laws of 1975. There were no public comments on the items when the board opened the meeting for visitors.
The board adjourned the special meeting and noted upcoming meetings on the published schedule.
