The Medical Device Committee’s outreach subcommittee reported work to promote understanding of the “spectrum of care” concept and to develop consumer‑facing and licensee materials tailored to dog‑show audiences.
Committee members said they have consulted with UC Davis and reviewed draft material from an AAVSB‑type article on spectrum or contextualized care. Outreach members said spectrum of care is taught in veterinary curricula though it may not always appear under that specific terminology; the subcommittee is focused on emphasizing documentation of declined care and other record‑keeping practices. The outreach subcommittee also reported engaging a theriogenologist (a reproductive‑specialist veterinarian) to draft educational materials originally aimed at dog‑show managers; the committee said it will tailor those materials to both well‑educated dog‑show participants and to general consumers.
The subcommittee said it attended two local dog shows to understand how education could be distributed and will schedule meetings with show management to share concerns and materials. The outreach subcommittee additionally continues work on unlicensed activity education and plans to publish and distribute targeted materials as part of ongoing outreach work. No votes or formal actions were recorded on this agenda item.
