On April 9, 2025, the Colfax City Council unanimously proclaimed April 2025 as Arts, Culture and Creativity Month in alignment with the statewide observance established by the California Legislature in 2019.
Erin Newington, representing the Historic Colfax Downtown Association, told the council she attended a county-level visitor and economic development meeting and said Colfax is well positioned to capture visitor interest as growth moves up the hill from Roseville. “It was a really great meeting to attend,” Newington said, and she described recent downtown arts events, including a launch night at Snapdragon, a paint-and-brunch event and an upcoming historic-preservation class.
City staff asked the council to adopt the proclamation; the council moved and seconded the measure and approved it without roll-call dissent. In reading the proclamation, the council cited a 2019 California legislative declaration of Arts Month and noted a 2020 Americans for the Arts report (as cited in the proclamation text) that quantified arts-related economic impact in Placer County.
The proclamation encourages residents to attend local arts events, support local artists and participate in community cultural activities during April. Council members and the Historic Colfax Downtown Association said several downtown events — a concert at CareSphere featuring guitarist Richard Smith, a preservation workshop on April 17, and other small events — are already scheduled for the month.
