Council adopts ordinance updating speed limits after engineering surveys

The survey covered numerous segments and corridors; staff reported a recommendation that 114 streets be designated as safety corridors, with 71 additional segments recommended for reduced speed limits and 19 segments to remain unchanged. Staff explained the methodology uses the 85th-percentile prevailing speed and other engineering factors consistent with MUTCD guidance.
Council action: the City Council considered amendments to the municipal code to implement the engineering recommendations (identified as ordinance MC 16151 in the record) and voted to adopt the ordinance. Staff said the ordinance implementation would be published on the city website and the updated speed maps would be posted for public reference.
