Berkeley County planning staff told the Planning Commission the county has published a solicitation seeking consultants to prepare incremental updates to the zoning ordinance and has identified a recommended consultant. The county council land use committee referred the recommendation at its last meeting and staff expects council to read that referral into the record at the next meeting.
Staff outlined near‑term priorities for the ordinance revisions: accessory dwelling units, buffer yards and a conservation subdivision alternative for Lehi‑1 zoned areas. Staff said subsequent amendment objectives will be addressed by priority thereafter. One of the deliverables will be an actionable framework for affordable housing; staff said they may call on commissioners to participate in steering committees or similar working groups as the project progresses.
No motion was required to receive the update. Staff said it will keep the commission informed as the consultant contract is finalized and amendment work begins.
