Commission seeks larger footprint and subcommittee meeting for Phase 5 inclusive play structure
Summary
Staff presented a preliminary rendering from the developer for a play structure at a Phase 5 housing parcel and said the proposed size is too small for an accessible, all-inclusive structure. Commissioners instructed staff to convene a subcommittee meeting with the developer and GameTime to review size, amenities and community input.

Adam (staff member) presented a preliminary developer rendering for the Phase 5 park at the new housing parcel and said the size submitted will not accommodate many inclusive play structures offered by manufacturer GameTime. The commission discussed accessibility, likely costs and next steps.
Adam said the developer’s rendering lacked sufficient area for an all-inclusive structure and that staff planned a subcommittee meeting to work with GameTime and the developer to determine an appropriate layout and specific amenities. “All inclusive play structures, majority of the time, have a ramp, some kind of option for a wheelchair to access the structure,” Adam said while showing examples.
Staff estimated the play structure package would likely cost between $100,000 and $200,000 for the structure alone; fully building an all-inclusive park with paths, restrooms and parking would be substantially more, and staff estimated a full all-inclusive park could approach $200,000–$300,000. Commissioners noted the parcel has limited parking and no restrooms and asked staff to seek community input on desired amenities and feasibility.
Commissioners asked whether each development phase must include a park; staff confirmed each phase may provide a park or pay in-lieu funds to the city. The commission agreed to schedule a subcommittee meeting within the coming week to review options, collect community input and return recommendations that staff could present to the City Council if needed.
No formal action or vote occurred at the meeting; staff will convene the subcommittee, solicit community input, and prepare renderings, color schemes and scope options for a future commission meeting and, later, council review.
