City planning staff gave a master plan update on April 21 and described the transition from inventory and site tours to public engagement.
The presenter said inventories have been completed and the process is now entering an engagement phase that uses an interactive mapping platform called Social Pinpoint. "The great part of Social Pinpoint...is because it's immediate specific feedback to exact sites," the presenter said, describing how residents can drop pins, leave concerns and suggest improvements for individual parks.
Staff said they have posted a survey and social‑media outreach; the survey had received 277 responses in about 10 days. The commission was told that staff will offer three identical public engagement sessions on May 6 at 2 p.m., 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. and will do on‑site outreach at community events including the Big Rig Rally, Market Fest community night and the Art Festival through June.
To broaden awareness, staff said they had placed small QR‑coded signs in 21 parks and will rotate those signs to cover all 60 city parks over subsequent rounds; scanning the code takes users to the Social Pinpoint map and survey. Staff noted that some comments already submitted include maintenance requests (for example, little free libraries) and requests for sidewalks and safety improvements, and that city teams will coordinate with public works where appropriate.
Commissioners asked how residents will learn about the Social Pinpoint tool; staff said the city used social media, email distribution lists and printed signs in parks and that they will highlight Social Pinpoint in future communications. Staff also said they will host an employee engagement session so city staff who use parks can provide input.
Staff asked commissioners to promote the outreach and encouraged residents to visit the parks projects web page for the map and survey.
