City of Huachula and Zolfo Springs report water-main and wastewater treatment upgrades

Deputy City Manager John Eason presented progress reports on two City of Huachula water-main loop projects. Eason said subsurface utility locates and right-of-way locates are nearly complete for the Riverview Heights Water Main project, with topographic and right-of-way survey work at about 90% and design at approximately 30% (design anticipated to finish in mid-July). The Herbridge Road Water Main Loop topographic and right-of-way work was at about 60% with design at about 10% and an anticipated design completion in August; Eason attributed a short delay to property-owner coordination and surveying logistics.
Linda Robertson, representing the Town of Zolfo Springs, updated the board on two EDA-funded wastewater improvement grants awarded in 2023. Robertson said the town has spent about $246,704 so far and has used ARPA, appropriations and EDA grant funds; recent work includes aeration improvements to meet Florida Department of Environmental Protection biological-treatment requirements, an improved dewatering system that reduced hauling, master pump-station upgrades to replace failing components, and spray-field expansion to meet FDEP loading rules. Robertson said environmental studies had delayed some work but that the town is moving into the construction and equipment phase in 2025.
Both presenters said projects remain on schedule for continuing work and coordination with county and state permitting as required.
