District seeks to upgrade elementary AV and classroom sound; staff recommends networked systems

District staff presented a multi-school audio-visual and classroom sound replacement project covering several elementary schools (Allward, Forest Grove, Georgetown, Jamestown Upper and Lower, South) and alternates for the former freshman campus (now Northern Campus) and South Elementary PA system. Staff said initial bidding targeted non-networked amplifier systems but the low bid allowed the district to upgrade to networked systems that add security and building control features.
A staff presenter said the networked upgrade would let staff lock down a building with a single push and call the office from a classroom device, adding security and remote maintenance capabilities. “Because of the low bidder in this category gave us a very favorable pricing, we felt we were able to upgrade to network,” the presenter said.
Staff presented a base bid and alternates; the work could include projector and screen replacement, upgraded classroom sound, and building-wide PA system replacements for specific schools. Staff noted three bidders provided competitive pricing on the digital and AV work; the transcript lists Moss Telecom and Town and Country among bidders and included comparative bid amounts in the packet.
Staff will present the recommended contract(s) for board approval; scope, alternates, and final award amounts will be determined at the time of formal action.
