Garfield board approves position controls; public raises concerns about literacy supports

The Garfield Public School District board on April 28 approved a slate of position controls and job descriptions intended to reorganize some administrative roles while preserving the district's current budget lines.

Superintendent Dr. Tomko said the items on the agenda are “not additional positions” but rather “additional position controls, which means that the board has the ability to fill them if it wants.” He told the board the changes are meant to clarify job descriptions, allow programmatic directors to coordinate with principals, and support articulation between elementary and secondary programs for the 2025–26 school year.
