County staff also noted the county is undertaking a GIS update over the next six months.
Commissioners asked staff to: (1) meet with the road department (Sean) and GIS staff (Cordell) to research the origin of the GIS lines; (2) check whether the lines are recorded on plats or easements and whether RS 2477 historic rights-of-way might apply; (3) remove or relabel any lines that are mere features rather than designated county roads; and (4) report back on findings so property owners can be advised and potential trespass issues prevented.
The commission emphasized they will not instruct removal without due diligence. If the features are on a recorded plat as dedicated roads, a formal vacation process may be required; if not, a simple GIS correction is possible. Several commissioners offered to join staff to review documents in person.
Ending: Staff will meet with Sean and Cordell, examine the county road map, plats, deeds, and RS 2477 records, and return with recommendations for correcting the GIS and options for vacating recorded roads if needed.
