Board of Regents approves consent agenda after roll call; several members signal dissent or abstention on specific consent items

A motion to approve the consent agenda at the April 24 Iowa Board of Regents meeting passed after a roll call vote. The motion was made by Regent Dunkel and seconded by Regent Rouse; the board announced affirmative responses during the roll call and the chair declared the motion approved.

The consent agenda vote drew several recorded exceptions. Regent Barker said she would vote no on the Memorial Union renovation project and on a University of Iowa reimbursement resolution and said she would abstain from the agenda item listed as item J, the proposed resident system rates; she said she would vote yes on the remaining consent items. The board proceeded with the roll call and the chair announced the motion approved.

During the roll call the following members were recorded on the public transcript as responding in the affirmative: Regent Reiswick, Regent Dunkel, Regent Lindemeyer, Regent Rouse, Regent Gipple, Regent Kramer and Regent Bates. The chair then stated the motion was approved.

The meeting record shows members voiced their positions on specific consent agenda components before the roll call; Barker’s comments enumerated three explicit votes (two no votes and one abstention on a separate consent item).
