Indian Trail council approves $49,500 design contract to add new park access road at Chestnut Square Park

The Indian Trail Town Council unanimously approved a design contract not to exceed $49,500 with Lawrence Associates to design a new road that will connect Chestnut Square Park to a future trail and reconfigure parking and amenities.
Staff said the new road would be built on town property instead of performing further improvements to Shady Bluff, and that the work would free up approximately 0.9 acres at the park corner for amenities or parking. The contract will be paid from the Shady Bluff project allocation: staff proposed using $50,000 of existing right-of-way funds to cover the design cost and noted $915,000 in the current ordinance balance for that park work.
Council member motioned to approve the design contract, and the vote was unanimous.
The contract authorizes survey and design services; staff said clearing, parking and construction would be budgeted and scheduled as design is completed.
