Representatives of Holcim/Wholesome attended the meeting and a company official, Jackie Clark, described the firm's renewed local engagement. Clark introduced Justin Kurth and former state legislator Bob Gardner as company liaisons who will work with the county.
Later in the meeting, Fremont County Department of Transportation director Mike Witt recommended awarding the department's aggregate-materials bid to Wholesome of Canyon City. The recommendation specified three-quarter-inch aggregate for chip seal at $20 per ton and one-half-inch chip-seal aggregate at $23.50 per ton; county crews will pick up material at the quarry.
Witt said the department rebid the materials and realized approximately a 28% savings compared with the prior solicitation. Commissioners thanked the department for pursuing the rebid as a taxpayer-savings measure.
A commissioner moved to award the bid as presented; the board approved with a roll-call vote showing Commissioner Bell "Aye" and Commissioner Grantham "Aye." The third commissioner was absent. The director and staff said the award also supports the county's larger chip-seal program, including work on the Pathfinders project.
Company representatives in the audience were acknowledged by commissioners, who said they welcomed increased local engagement from the plant and company staff.
