Senate names stretch of Colorado State Highway 58 for fallen Golden police Officer Evan A. Dunn

DENVER — The Colorado Senate on April 21 adopted Senate Joint Resolution 015, designating a portion of Colorado State Highway 58 in Golden as the Officer Evan A. Dunn Memorial Highway.
The resolution, read on the floor and adopted by voice and then roll call, designates the stretch of State Highway 58 from Mile Marker 0 at Sixth Avenue to the eastern city limits of Golden near McIntyre Street as the Officer Evan A. Dunn Memorial Highway. It authorizes the Colorado Department of Transportation to accept gifts, grants and donations to pay for initial signage and to explore a cooperative agreement with the City of Golden for sign maintenance.
Senator Chris Kolker introduced the resolution and Senator Kolker’s colleague, Senator Kolker (cosponsor listed in the resolution), requested it be read at length. Senator Kolker’s remarks were followed by floor statements from Senator Kolker’s supporters and by the family’s presence in the chamber.
Senator Kolker described Officer Dunn’s service to the Golden Police Department and his military service in the Army National Guard, noting: “Officer Evan Dunn tragically lost his life in the line of duty on 11/06/2024 while performing his sworn responsibilities.”
Senator Jesse Danielson, who said Officer Dunn served in his district, invited the family to the podium and requested a moment of silence that the Senate observed while the chimes were rung.
The measure passed unanimously on a roll call vote with 35 ayes and no no votes; the Senate recorded the vote and added the current roll call as cosponsors. The resolution also directs that copies of the joint resolution be sent to Officer Dunn’s wife, the Golden Police Department, the City of Golden, the Colorado Department of Transportation, the governor and county and state officials identified in the text.
The resolution is ceremonial and does not appropriate funds. It affirms the Senate’s recognition of Officer Dunn’s service and authorizes the department to receive donations for the signs marking the designated portion of highway.
