The High Point Finance Committee on April 17 approved a change order to an existing sidewalk contract to address severe trip hazards and curb issues in the Burns Hill and Emerywood neighborhoods.
Melinda King, assistant public services director, said the city previously used the contractor to address trip hazards in the Central Business District and now proposes a not-to-exceed addition of $150,000 to extend work to Burns Hill and Emerywood. King said the program uses a severity-ranked list so staff can sequence repairs if the work comes in under budget, and noted that the overall program could total $450,000 if additional scope is needed.
King said the contractor helped the city adjust curb and gutter in prior work to reduce ponding and to improve stormwater flow into drains. The change order is intended to target the most severe sidewalk and curb hazards in the two neighborhoods.
A motion to approve item "20 20 five-one 43" passed by voice vote; committee members present voted in favor and no opposition was recorded.
City staff did not provide a project schedule during the meeting; staff said they will rely on the contractor's severity report to determine which locations are repaired first.
