Mindy Tate, CEO of Franklin Tomorrow and a Franklin resident, told the Board of Mayor and Aldermen on Oct. 20 that Franklin Tomorrow has been selected by the National Civic League to participate in its Healthy Democracy program and will host a mayoral breakfast at Liberty Hall at the Factory on Tuesday, Oct. 21.
Tate said the initiative grew from a community survey and a public meeting this spring that produced five themes: youth leadership and engagement, civic awareness and engagement, cultural and natural assets (including public art and parks), economic development and historic preservation. The organization is prioritizing youth leadership, civic awareness and cultural assets.
"We're very excited to say that we are over 300 we're right at 375 registrations for that event," Tate said, and noted that nearly 50 registrants were youth brought by schools and local partners. The event will be free; organizers said post-event survey results will be reported publicly and that the event will not be recorded because it will be small-group table discussions.
Alderman Caesar thanked Tate and said he would participate as a table host. Tate invited board members to RSVP so the organizers could plan seating and food; she said next steps include reporting out survey results similar to prior "On the Table" community events.
Ending: Franklin Tomorrow and city staff will host the Oct. 21 mayoral breakfast to gather community input on youth engagement and civic awareness; organizers will report survey results after the event.
