Eugene City Council appoints Craig Granetsky as police auditor

Carrie Baraldo, interim director of the Employee Resource Center, told the council staff used a national recruitment firm, conducted an initial applicant review and first-round interviews, and ran final interviews that included council, a stakeholder panel, and a community panel in mid‑March. A full employment background check of the top candidate was completed, and Baraldo reported the candidate passed all components.
Councilors who spoke during discussion praised the candidate’s interview and references. Councilor Zelenka, who said Granetsky was his first pick after interviews, noted the background check and references were “glowing.” Councilor Gross said she was “very impressed” by the interview and the background investigation, and Councilor Leach said the candidate “fits exactly the bill” based on information obtained in executive session with the interim auditor. Several councilors also thanked interim coverage provided while the vacancy existed; Councilor Zelenka singled out Mark Gissner for stepping in temporarily.
The motion to appoint was made by the council president and seconded; the motion language directed authorization to the council president to negotiate within the advertised salary range and specified that the final employment agreement would be approved by the full council through the consent agenda prior to execution. The council took the vote aloud and confirmed the appointment 8 to 0.
