City schedules resident and business town halls to study Knights of Lights crowding and mobility

City staff announced a public engagement schedule May 6 for studying crowding and traffic circulation tied to large events, including Knights of Lights. The outreach plan divides stakeholders into residential and business groups and ends with an evening joint meeting for broader public input.
Staff representative Steadman (staff) said the meetings will be held in the Alcazar Room and will not be recorded on video; staff will document comments and collate them into a final report for the commission. The announced dates are: resident stakeholder meetings May 20 and May 27 at 9 a.m.; business stakeholder meetings May 22 and May 29 at 1 p.m.; and a joint evening meeting June 10, 5–7 p.m.
Steadman said the city has formed a staff-level traffic-circulation working group that has proposed short- and long-term ideas to improve mobility downtown during high visitation events. The city also plans to publicize the meetings through social media, the city website and direct outreach to neighborhood and business associations.
Steadman described the public sessions as town-hall style meetings, intended to collect ideas and concerns. He told commissioners the staff will not record video of the sessions but will compile comment notes and deliver a summary report for future policy consideration. No formal votes were taken at the May 6 meeting.
