Council OKs purchase and installation of new Frisco Park playground equipment

Council member Rascon moved to approve the BuyBoard purchase for option 3 and Mayor Pro Tem Weiss seconded; the council approved the purchase.
Tim Crosswhite, presenting for parks staff, said the project budget is $50,000 and the Parks Advisory Committee pledged an additional $3,000 for trees, benches and trash receptacles. Crosswhite described the existing playground as aging and partially sited over an old private landfill that has led to ongoing settlement; the new equipment will be located on more stable ground adjacent to a recently relocated basketball court.
Crosswhite and advisory committee members favored a multi‑age structure rated for ages 2–12 to serve a broader range of children. Staff said the chosen option (option 3) is roughly within the $50,000 budget and includes features for younger and older children such as climbing elements and slides; the presentation included canopy options but staff warned that small plastic canopies have limited solar protection and that a full shade structure would be significantly more expensive.
Council members asked about dimensions, irrigation access and installation. Crosswhite said the site has water available from the former community garden and that irrigation will be included. The presentation included differing figures for structure dimensions on different slides (staff described both ~31x31 and ~36x28 sizes in sequence); staff said final dimensions will be confirmed during procurement and installation planning.
Council member Rascon moved the purchase; Mayor Pro Tem Weiss seconded. The council approved the installation and purchase via BuyBoard and staff will coordinate procurement, delivery and installation with the recommended vendor.
