McKinney opens early voting April 22 for May 3 general election; city outlines locations and signage rules

Tanisha Parchman, the city of McKinney deputy city secretary, briefed the City Council on April 22 about the May 3, 2025 general election timeline, early voting locations and electioneering signage rules at city-owned voting sites.
Parchman said early voting begins April 22 and runs through April 29; election day is May 3, with polls open 7 a.m.–7 p.m. The election canvas is tentatively scheduled for May 12, she said, and the council’s member ceremonies are tentatively set for May 20 if no runoff is required. If a runoff is necessary, she said the runoff would be held June 7 with an anticipated canvas and ceremonies around June 17.
Parchman said the new City Hall will host early voting in the Fit You Events Hall; eight city-owned locations are listed as voting sites for this election, and Collin County Elections Administration will also host early voting and election day voting. She noted that the Senior Recreation Center will serve as an election-day-only site for this cycle.
Parchman described sign-placement rules for city-owned election sites: signage for early voting and election day locations may be posted starting April 21 and must be removed by May 5. For the Senior Recreation Center (election-day-only site), signs may be posted May 2–4. She described standard signage dimensions in the candidate materials and said the city’s ordinance contains additional detail; materials are available at mckinneytexas.org under the elections button.
When Council member James asked about signage if there is a runoff, a city staff member (Hauser) responded that signs must be removed by May 5; the city will pick up signs not removed by that date, and signage posting will resume for the runoff period beginning the first day of early voting for the runoff (signs may be posted the day before early voting for the runoff and must be removed per the same timeline for that election period).
Parchman also reviewed candidate and administrative dates: the application packet for candidates will be provided to council on July 7 (for council’s internal use in candidate processes), and she listed the seats up for election on May 3. She stood for questions at the conclusion of the briefing.
