Resident asks council to delay vote on 20 Eighth Street closure pending FOIA documents

A downtown property owner told the council on Monday he has repeatedly sought documentation about a proposed closing of 20 Eighth Street and asked the council to table a related vote scheduled for Tuesday until the records are produced.
Bill Trinka said he filed a public records request in January seeking documentation about the origin of language that would require certain access points to be closed as part of a project. After months, Trinka said, the city told him only that it would file an application with the Florida Department of Transportation. Trinka said he then searched FDOT records and found a document (number 1457012) that lists a possible closing as a consideration rather than a requirement.
Trinka said he filed a second public records request in March and the city subsequently sent an invoice for $425.94 to process the request but did not deliver the documents. "I'm requesting that you table that motion for tomorrow," Trinka told council. "Don't vote on it. Let it sit back until the information comes to me that I bought and paid for, and I will gladly share it with all you." He said the street change would cause him a "significant financial negative impact."
City manager follow up
City manager Brown told Trinka he had left the meeting and that staff would follow up directly with him.
