Council approves remodel and permit amendment for Ford Pro facility at Studebaker Road

The Cerritos City Council on April 21 adopted resolutions approving an amendment to an existing conditional use permit and an amendment to a precise plan to remodel an industrial building at 17700 Studebaker Road for use by Ford Pro.
Senior Planner Jeremy Lowe told the council the applicant, Conant Properties, requests an amendment to Conditional Use Permit 02/2011 to allow the existing automobile reconditioning facility to provide service to privately owned commercial trucks and vehicles in addition to vehicles intended for sale at the Cerritos Auto Square. The applicant also requested an amendment to Precise Plan 1979-16A to remodel the existing 75,652-square-foot building with interior customer and employee facilities and a refreshed exterior façade aligned with Ford Pro branding.
Lowe said drought-tolerant landscaping, tree plantings and screened roof-mounted mechanical equipment are part of the proposed improvements. He said the planning commission considered the project on April 2 and recommended approval by a 4–0 vote. Staff reported the project is exempt from review under the California Environmental Quality Act pursuant to section 15,301 as noted in the agenda report.
Contractor Sean Sowers, representing Sowers Lopez Construction, told the council construction is anticipated to take about four months once plan check and permits are complete. The council closed the public hearing after receiving one written comment in the record and no public speakers.
A motion to adopt the staff recommendations and approve the entitlements passed on a 5–0 vote. Council asked staff to coordinate plan check with Los Angeles County building and safety and to return with final execution details as required.
