Council discusses renaming 700 North as a Linden gateway; UDOT and Pleasant Grove sign-off needed

Lindon City Council members discussed a staff proposal to add a Linden-themed name to the portion of 700 North that functions as a gateway from I-15.
Adam, a city staff member who introduced the item, said 700 North is currently a UDOT-maintained road and that UDOT indicated it would be open to a secondary name if Lindon proposes one and Pleasant Grove signs a supporting intent.
Council discussion centered on several naming options — including Linden Parkway, Linden Boulevard, Linden Gateway and Linden Village Parkway — and on how a secondary name would be displayed on state signage. Councilmembers noted a nearby street name overlap (Linden Park Drive) and discussed sign readability. Several members favored a simple “Linden” primary name for branding and wayfinding at the I-15 interchange.
Councilmembers also discussed jurisdictional limits: a name applied across the full length to the interchange could affect addresses in Pleasant Grove and would require that city’s agreement. Staff suggested alternative approaches such as a directional or gateway sign at the interchange that points motorists to Linden without immediately changing Pleasant Grove addresses.
Council consensus was to give the mayor and staff leeway to pursue conversations with UDOT and Pleasant Grove and return with specifics on signage, addressing impacts and a recommended name.
The council did not take a formal vote and left the final decision and any interjurisdictional agreements to further staff discussions.
