Police & Fire Committee forwards two revised excessive-noise ordinances to council

The Amherst Police and Fire Committee voted unanimously to send two amended ordinances addressing excessive noise — item 82504 and item 82505 — to the full City Council for consideration.
Committee chair Mister Janick opened discussion by thanking Mister Ward for incorporating recommended edits, noting the redlined changes in the copies before the committee. Janick said the edits reflected recommendations made at a prior committee meeting and invited further comment. "Everything looked good, as far as the recommendations and changes this committee made to him when we last convened," Janick said.
The mayor raised a question about a vibration section on the second page and said he believed that language was to be removed. Committee members confirmed the provision will be taken out prior to the next meeting; Janick said the change would be made without a separate motion. The committee then voted to advance both items:
- Motion by Mister Janick, second by Mister Demoditsky, to send 82504 to the floor of council; vote 6 to 0. - Motion by Mister Heberling, second by Mister Janek, to send 82505 to the floor of council; vote 6 to 0.
Janick and others said the committee’s suggested edits appear in red on the distributed copies. The items were advanced to the council floor; the committee chair and staff said they will finalize the removal of the vibration language and prepare the ordinances for council readings.
Both motions were recorded without additional amendments at the committee level. The ordinances will return to council for a vote on the floor.
