Residents press council to keep Lakeside East mixed-use vision as developer pauses return to council

Craig Goodhart, who said he has lived in Flower Mound for 33 years and is a nearby neighbor, told council he was disappointed the item was not on the evening’s agenda and asked the applicant to return: “I respectfully ask that you reconsider, ask him to come back, give his presentation concerning the apartments and, townhomes,” he said.
Keven Darbbonnet and other speakers said they preferred the proposed mixed‑use vision to the default C‑2 zoning that could result in generic strip retail. Darbbonnet told council the developer had “shown a willingness to collaborate and listen” over three years and said the town should seek a path forward so the property doesn’t become “another cookie‑cutter strip mall.”
Council staff clarified the developer made the decision not to bring the project back this meeting. At one point Craig Goodhart asked whether the item had been delayed “until the applicant chooses to come back, so it’s at his discretion.” A staff member replied: “Yes, ma’am. That’s correct. We had meetings with mister Archie last week, and he made the decision not to bring it back this meeting.”
Why it matters: Public comments came during the meeting’s public comment period and follow earlier hearings on the same Lakeside project. Residents living near the property said they want council to insist on the mixed‑use vision — including apartments and townhomes — rather than permit C‑2 commercial uses. Council did not take a vote on the project during this meeting.
Next steps: Council did not place the Lakeside item on the agenda; staff indicated the developer decided not to present this meeting.
