Aurora committee hears state legislative roundup; voting-rights bill, construction-defects measure and budget shortfall highlighted

Aurora City Council legislative committee members received a state-legislative briefing that highlighted several measures affecting municipal authority and local budgets, including Senate Bill 1 on election timing and municipal structure, a construction-defects bill that passed the Senate, and ongoing budget shortfalls that members said could shape final outcomes.

The city’s lobbyists summarized items the committee is tracking. Tammy said the vehicle registration bill passed the Senate Local Government committee 6–2 and is headed to appropriations; the fiscal note currently shows about $13,000 and staff are working to have that amount removed.
