Colfax council sends draft sidewalk repair ordinance back to staff after public concern over costs and timeline

The city planning consultant, Kathy Pease, told the council the draft would formalize a long-standing state practice that places responsibility for sidewalk maintenance on adjacent property owners, including a notice-and-repair process, a 60-day compliance period in the draft, an appeal to the council and a city option to perform repairs and recoup costs (including a potential lien if unpaid). Pease said the draft is intended to ensure safe, accessible sidewalks and to provide a consistent process for addressing hazards.
