Colfax council approves $1,000 donation to Lady Falcon girls'basketball ahead of season banquet

The Colfax City Council on March 26 unanimously approved an immediate $1,000 donation to the Lady Falcon girls' basketball program after councilors classified the request as an urgent item the night of the meeting.

Council member Burris explained the funding was time-sensitive because the team's end-of-season banquet was scheduled for the coming Sunday; she said organizers had not been able to attend previous meetings and that the council had missed similar opportunities in prior years. After a brief discussion confirming the item met the Brown Act's narrow exception for items that became known after the agenda was published, a councilor moved and another seconded a $1,000 donation. The motion passed by voice vote.

Councilors and staff noted that the contribution would be presented at the banquet and that larger or additional fiscal requests (for other events such as a July 3 celebration) could be considered separately in budget discussions. The funds were approved without further conditions in the meeting record.
