Council approves $10,000 contract amendment to continue planning for Shady Glen sewer consolidation

The Colfax City Council approved a $10,000 contract amendment on March 26 for Wood Rogers to continue planning work on the Shady Glen community sewer consolidation project, a planning effort that staff said began in January 2023 and has extended as permitting and annexation work proceeded.
Consultant Jim Flutter (Wood Rogers), joining by Zoom, told the council the project initially focused on engineering for consolidation but expanded to include an annexation effort, which lengthened the schedule and increased staff and consultant work. Flutter said the state review and funding process has required follow-up questions; the firm has reached its original budget on the grant-funded planning work and asked for an additional $10,000 to respond to agency inquiries and close out the application. He said unused funds would roll back to the planning budget under the state program.
Council members asked for clear documentation of responsibilities, budget tracking and who pays for incremental tasks; staff and the consultant agreed to maintain close documentation and to stay within the funded work scope.
Council approved the amendment by voice vote.
