The Colfax City Council on March 26 approved renaming the city'owned ballpark to the Colfax Area Living Veterans War Memorial Park, responding to a request from the local VFW and community members.
Staff reported the Colfax VFW had raised $2,765 toward a new sign but had not submitted a final sign design or permit application. Staff estimated a new sign design would likely cost several hundred to around $1,000 for professional design work, not including fabrication and installation costs.
The council adopted a resolution that changes the park name in council direction and directs the city manager to update the name in the general plan and parks master plan at the next scheduled amendment, and to coordinate sign replacement if the city receives sufficient donated funds. Council members asked staff to waive any unnecessary sign-permit fees for this city-owned facility and to review safety and installation logistics if the VFW or volunteers propose to install the sign.
No public opposition appeared in the hearing. Councilors noted community ties to the park name; staff cautioned that a design and installation plan is needed before work proceeds.
