Forest Lake City Council on April 28 approved a Manor Park renovation project and authorized purchase of playground equipment from Plate Creations for $75,000, with an overall project not to exceed $125,000 funded from the city’s park-dedication balance.
City staff said the existing playground, installed in 2001, is reaching the end of its 25-year lifespan; the proposed project replaces worn steel-and-rubber coated equipment, adds a swing set, creates a trail connection, provides shade and includes an initial gravel parking area. Staff solicited proposals and received several responses; Parks and Recreation Commission recommended one vendor’s design, which included a promotional discount from the supplier that influenced the selection.
Public-works staff will perform site preparation and the city intends to install a temporary gravel parking area to serve the neighborhood until broader road and trail projects are complete. The selected playground supplier will begin fabrication to meet a targeted September installation timeline.
Council voted to (1) authorize the Manor Park project up to $125,000 from park dedication funds and (2) approve the Plate Creations equipment purchase for $75,000. Construction and equipment ordering will proceed under Public Works coordination; staff said trees, benches and path work will be contracted as needed.
