The Santa Rosa County School Board on May 1 approved the appointment of Katherine Jones as assistant superintendent for finance.
Superintendent Dr. Barber recommended Jones to succeed the current finance leader and noted Jones had served the district previously as a bookkeeper for federal programs, later held property-control responsibilities, earned a master's degree in accounting and a CPA, and worked at the University of West Florida in auditing roles. "She is coming to us with a good deep knowledge of various aspects of school finance and accounting," Dr. Barber said.
Jones thanked the board and said she began her professional career with the district and hoped to conclude her career there. The board voted unanimously to confirm the appointment; Dr. Barber said Jones will begin in the post and the district will transition responsibilities in the coming months prior to the current incumbent's retirement.
The appointment was presented as an administrative recommendation and received a voice vote with unanimous approval.
