Representatives from Sanford Main Street and the Chamber of Commerce described a seven-part downtown marketing campaign called Sanford Sizzling Summer, approved by the Community Redevelopment Agency to support downtown businesses through the summer months.
Program elements include a Sanford Seeds voucher program (discounted value to spend at participating businesses), weekly Sunset Sessions in Magnolia Square, Sizzlin’ Summer Cinema at the Ritz, a bingo-card incentive linking multiple downtown attractions, promotions tied to River Rats baseball games, splash-pad promotion and enhanced holiday marketing planning. The presenters said the goal is family-friendly programming to boost weekday traffic for downtown merchants during hot summer months.
Presenters said the CRA has approved $25,000 for the seeds program, with an additional $25,000 pending approval at a subsequent CRA meeting; they said Main Street and private organizers will fund a dedicated website for the campaign because CRA funds could not be used for website development. The seeds vouchers would be distributed incrementally, with limits on purchase per individual to preserve demand; participating businesses would redeem vouchers at the information center and be reimbursed.
Commissioners and staff offered promotional support: several commissioners volunteered to participate in promotional content and were asked to mark May 29 (River Rats opening day) on calendars for kickoff activities. Presenters said the organizing team will keep a separate bank account for Sizzling Summer funds and provide transparent accounting to the CRA.
