Thomas Posey, who identified himself for the record as representing Gulftex Energy, said the company had drilled three wells on county land and planned three more. He told the court that a permitting delay at the Railroad Commission left the lease effectively canceled on May 25, 2025, and asked the court for a one-year extension. Posey said the company would pay the lease bonus again if the court granted the extension.
Court members asked the company to confirm the exact expiration date and whether a bonus check had been submitted with the packet; Posey said the packet included a check. Commissioners and staff discussed the urgency tied to permitting timelines and the company—s plan to drill three additional wells and the county—s potential revenue from new production.
After brief discussion, the court voted to approve the one-year lease extension; the motion carried. Staff and the company agreed to provide the original paperwork to finalize the extension once the judge received the originals and the county auditor completed review of the paperwork.
