Board approves architect fee amendment after land and donation boost funds for mental health crisis center

The MAPS for Citizens Advisory Board recommended approval of Amendment No. 2 to the architectural services contract with SA Studio for the MAPS 4 mental health crisis center and accepted a real estate donation that increased project construction funding.
David Todd, MAPS staff, told the board the amendment is needed because a gift from the Arnall Foundation and an associated land donation increased available construction funding by about $3.7 million. "Because we received a generous donation from the Arnall Foundation for the project, and also the land was donated, we were able to take about $3,700,000 and put it into construction. That increased the architect's scope of services, therefore, we have this amendment for his fees," Todd said.
Todd also presented a real estate donation agreement and the special warranty deed for property intended for the MAPS 4 Restoration Center. He said the land donation allows more of the project budget to go into construction. Todd noted there are two parcels and said staff would send both items to city council and return the other item for board review.
The board voted to approve the architectural amendment (item 2g) and to accept the real estate donation and special warranty deed (item 2h). Todd said the proximity of the restoration center to the diversion hub was a shared objective among partners and that the donations make more funds available for construction.
