Souls Church asks Lancaster Council to donate closed Fire Station No. 6 for congregation use

Lancaster City — At the April 29 Lancaster City Council meeting, Reverand Kevin Polite, lead pastor of Souls Church Incorporated, asked the city to donate the closed Fire Station No. 6 building at 843 Fremont Street so the congregation could convert it into a church and community center.
Reverend Kevin Polite described Souls Church’s history and needs and said parking and rising rent make occupying a larger local facility important to the congregation. "So in faith, I stand before you today and request that the building being donated to Souls Church Incorporated, so we can turn it into a church," Polite said.
Fabian Martinez, a youth and children’s pastor with Souls Church, told the council the church plans outreach to people experiencing homelessness and addiction, assistance with furniture and vouchers, youth programming and other services if the property is obtained.
No council member proposed or seconded a motion and no formal action was taken during the meeting. The session was a public-comment-only event; council staff earlier noted that several agenda items (including Bill 3 and a Lafayette Days resolution) were re‑advertised and would be scheduled for the May 13 meeting.
Polite framed the request as both a financial and spiritual opportunity, saying the church’s intention is to "reach the community, love the community, and come alongside of them by doing the following" and listing outreach goals. City staff or councilors did not provide a response during the public comment period.
