Samara Yadi and Audrey Hendershot presented to the City and County of Broomfield study session, identifying themselves as the delegates and saying they attended the event with Mayor Castriada and several council members. "We were the youth delegates at the conference in DC, and we wanted to tell you guys a little bit about it," Hendershot said.
The students recounted hearing remarks from national leaders, visiting the Capitol and representative offices, and touring the Holocaust Memorial and Washington monuments. They also described a breakfast meeting where they said Colorado U.S. Sens. Michael Bennet and John Hickenlooper spoke; Hendershot said she asked Sen. Bennet a question about youth mental health and that she felt heard by his response.
Mayor Castriada and council members thanked the delegates for representing Broomfield and said the city appreciated their leadership. The presentation closed with the students thanking the city and council for the opportunity. The council noted the presentation was a regular non-decision update and did not require action.
The students’ presentation and the council’s remarks took place during the study-session portion of the meeting; no formal action was taken.
