Five-year facilities plan approved by survey team; George Washington Carver named top project with state entitlement funding

Staff said the survey team praised the district’s combined use of bonds, SPLOST and state capital outlay funds, noted the system will be debt-free of bonds by August 2025 and commended rapid response to hurricane damage. The team also recognized facilities that support career pathways, fine arts and athletics.
According to staff, the survey team identified the new George Washington Carver project as the number-one project in the five-year plan and said entitlement funding available for that and other eligible projects would be about $22,000,351. District staff said the total facility improvement needs listed in the plan — including projects that would require local dollars — totaled about $85,973,322 and that the system contribution if everything on the plan were done would be about $63,621,562.
Staff said they will ask the board to adopt a resolution affirming the plan so the district can submit it to the state department of education and draw entitlement funds over the next five years.
Board members agreed to place the resolution on the consent agenda for formal action.
