McCauley Vision Fund awards $2,000 to 'Light Up Our Town' decorations project

Dustin Klineseuser presented an update on the Tom and Anne McCauley Vision Fund and announced the committee’s award for 2025.
Klineseuser said the McCauley fund, established by lifelong Hot Springs residents Tom and Anne McCauley, exists to support community projects that are not city obligations. The committee vetted three applicants and awarded $2,000 to the Christmas in the Hills "Light Up Our Town" project to help purchase and install additional decorative snowflakes and lighted garland for downtown lamp posts.
Klineseuser summarized intended uses: purchase and install 30 additional three-foot snowflakes for lampposts, lighted garland for new lampposts from Evans Plunge to Lin's Dakota Mart, and fasteners for suspended sidewalk decorations. He noted the decorations are reusable year to year.
Mayor and councilors praised the committee's process and reiterated the donors’ stipulation that endowment funds not be used for projects the city itself should fund. "Tom and Anne ... made it very clear that none of the money was to be used for any projects ... that the city should be responsible for," one councilor said.
The committee said the award meets the donors’ intent to support community-improvement efforts managed outside routine city obligations.
