Mayor Steven Mason and the council approved updates adopting: the 2020 National Electric Code (Ordinance No. 2025‑840); the 2021 International Fuel Gas Code (2025‑841); the 2021 International Residential Code (2025‑842); the 2021 International Building Code (2025‑843); the 2021 International Mechanical Code (2025‑844); the 2021 International Swimming Pool and Spa Code (2025‑845); the 2021 International Energy Conservation Code (2025‑846); the 2021 International Plumbing Code (2025‑847); and the 2021 International Fire Code (2025‑849).
Why it matters: Adopting these model codes updates the city’s technical standards for construction, plumbing, mechanical systems, pools, energy conservation, electricity and fire safety. City staff told the council the adoptions replace prior local code sections and were the subject of briefings at earlier meetings.
Council procedure: Each item was presented as a public hearing; no witnesses signed up. Council recorded motions and seconds on the record and the mayor called for the vote. The minutes show the measures carried without recorded opposition.
What comes next: Each ordinance provides for immediate effect and incorporation into the Cedar Hill Code of Ordinances; staff and building‑safety personnel said they will proceed with implementation and public notification. The building department introduced staff who will support code enforcement and public education around the new standards.
