Coffey County commissioners approve personnel classifications, health-department completion and law-enforcement center change orders

The Coffey County Commission on April 21 approved a batch of routine and project-related motions, including a resolution setting the county employee pay scale and classification, two county job descriptions, formal acceptance of the Health Department remodel, and three change orders for the county’s Law Enforcement Center.

Commissioners moved quickly through multiple agenda items that drew little public comment. The board approved a resolution establishing the county pay scale and classification, and voted to approve a tax-levy clerk job description and a budgetary/accounting job description for the county clerk’s office. The commission also authorized the chairman to sign an updated administrative form (CP-4U) dated April 21, 2025.

On building projects, the board accepted a certificate of project completion and an affidavit of contractor for the Health Department remodel, affirming the county’s acceptance of the work and authorizing the chairman to sign completion documents. After touring the renovated health department earlier in the meeting, commissioners described the facility as improved and appropriate for public use.

Separately, the commission addressed construction change orders tied to the Coffey County Law Enforcement Center. Because the original motions on several change orders had been made when a former commissioner was later reported as having resigned, the board first rescinded those prior motions as a housekeeping step and then unanimously reapproved the same change orders (listed below) so the official record reflects actions taken only by the commissioners now serving. The board also approved a county resolution establishing stop signs and authorizing traffic-control signage for a state-project detour (Project 508-16K-A-5701-01) and reset a public hearing date related to a zoning special-use case (SU2025-01) for further consideration at the next scheduled meeting.
