APAC committee’s vote of concurrence for American Indian Education program presented to Monticello board

Director of Student Services Sarah Welk told the board on April 21 that the district’s American Indian Parent Advisory Committee (APAC) met and voted on a ‘‘vote of concurrence’’ about whether the district is meeting the educational needs of American Indian students. Welk explained the Minnesota Department of Education’s American Indian Education Program funding rules: 20 American Indian students generate a base award of $40,000, and each student beyond 20 generates $500 in additional funding. She said Minnesota Statute section 124D.0.78 requires districts with 10 or more American Indian students to have an APAC committee and to submit an annual compliance form to MDE reflecting APAC’s vote of concurrence or nonconcurrence.
Welk said she was representing APAC at the meeting and that she would bring the annual compliance document to the board later in the meeting for signatures. Board members acknowledged the presentation; no formal board vote was recorded in the transcript at the time of presentation because the APAC committee’s vote itself occurs at the committee level and the district official will sign the compliance report on behalf of the district.
Actions: The APAC committee's vote of concurrence was presented to the board and staff indicated the formal compliance document will be brought forward for signature and submission to MDE.
