During the Oct. 9 Rules Committee meeting, members reported vacancies on municipal panels and asked legislative services and the Mayor's Office to recruit applicants.
A committee member said the Board of Adjustment is down to three of five seats filled and urged assistance recruiting qualified applicants so panels can hold hearings. Another member warned that if enough panels lack membership the Assembly could be required to act in their stead; the Board of Equalization has a statutory quorum requirement for tax appeals and members stressed the Assembly should avoid becoming the de facto appeals board.
Legislative services said it has materials and graphics from prior recruitment cycles and offered to recirculate them; the clerk said staff will produce a qualifications list for distribution to members. Committee members asked that recruitment be timed to ensure appointments before seasonal gaps in availability.
No appointments were made during the Oct. 9 Rules Committee meeting; members asked staff to circulate qualification materials and to coordinate with the Mayor's Office on outreach.
