Town department seeks fleet replacements and emphasizes preventive maintenance

DPW staff described individual requests that include an electric Ford E-Transit van to replace a 9-year-old gasoline van, replacements for several Ford F-350 and F-550 trucks used for street signs, plowing and equipment transport, a forestry bucket truck and chipper, a hook-lift truck used to move dumpsters and large plows, and a skid-steer (Bobcat) replacement. Nick Torres, central fleet manager, told the committee he expects typical 3/4-ton and 1-ton work trucks (the F-350/F-550 classes) to deliver about "8 to 10 years" of reliable service depending on storage, usage and exposure to salt.
