Principals report student events, enrollment and program updates across district

At the Jan. 9 meeting of the Orange City School District Board of Education, principals from Moreland Hills Elementary, Brady Middle and Orange High provided updates on school events, student programs and upcoming dates.
Moreland Hills Elementary reported a successful December book fair that increased library and classroom collections, a revamp of the PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports) program to broaden student recognition across grade levels, plans for kindergarten information night on Feb. 2 and kindergarten registration with a yard-sign incentive. The school also scheduled a math night for families on Feb. 23 and Black History Month programming in February. The principal thanked the PTA for events and support.
Brady Middle highlighted a multi-day Challenge Day program for seventh- and eighth-graders intended to rebuild a pre-pandemic program, a PTA-sponsored Halloween costume contest, a builders club canned food drive that donated items to Garfield Church, and the return of both in-person and virtual parent-teacher conferences. The school plans a spelling bee in January and reported participation in the Youth in Government program at the State House in Columbus.
Orange High reviewed midterm and scheduling timelines. The school reminded families of the College Credit Plus information night and noted the curriculum guide on the board agenda; once approved, guidance staff will work individually with students on course selection. The principal reported commencement planning is underway for June 4, seniors are working on senior projects, and the school had strong results in the Scholastic Art & Writing competition with local student awards and Gold Key honors advancing to the New York City phase. The high school also outlined several travel programs, including spring trips and an immersion program with Denmark.
Principals also noted extracurricular and community access developments, including reopening of the Brady Fab Lab open lab nights on Mondays with community participation. Board members thanked principals and recognized upcoming events and student achievements.
