The Osage County Commission approved a buried-line permit for JMC Corporation, doing business as QuickComm Communications, to install fiber optic cable along multiple county roads, county staff said during the April 29 meeting.
The permit covers a long list of roads and addresses noted by staff, including Highway K-68, Radnor Road, Adam Road, East 270th Street, South California, South Croco Road, South Holland Road, South Shawnee Heights, East 293rd Street, East 285th Street, South Stanley Road and East 301st Street. Staff said the applicant will trench and place fiber in multiple segments and that accurate locates and ticket updates are important when a contractor submits multiple work locations in a single application.
Commissioners and staff discussed field reports from recent contractor activity, including one instance when a water main was struck in a congested area; staff cited “interference” among multiple subsurface utilities as a factor and reiterated the need for careful marking. Staff also said they have upgraded imagery access to better visualize locate requests.
A motion to approve the buried-line permit for JMC/QuickComm was moved, seconded and approved by voice vote.
Road & Bridge staff will monitor the installation for adherence to county requirements and to prevent damage to existing utilities.
