Ballston Spa library closed for at least a week after interior flooding

The Ballston Spa Public Library will be closed for about a week after flooding over the weekend damaged floorboards, drywall and lower‑level areas, Village of Ballston Spa officials said during an April 21 budget workshop.
Mayor Frank told trustees that the flood, caused by a failed filter on a water fountain, buckled floorboards and produced water damage that reached the basement. Servpro responded and the village’s insurance adjuster has made contact. "We have recommended to Andrea to keep the library shut for a week," the mayor said, adding that the pause would allow the village to perform mitigation required by New York State law and begin repairs.
Village officials said they are checking whether insurance will cover any compensatory hours for staff who cannot work while the building is closed. DPW staff were planning to remove carpets and start mitigation work immediately; officials noted some new construction on the library’s addition appears to be on the opposite side of the damaged area and should not be affected.
The village said the closure is precautionary and will allow professionals to dry, dehumidify and repair damaged materials before reopening to the public. Officials did not provide a firm reopening date beyond an estimate of about a week and said the timeline depends on mitigation results and any insurance review.
