Danvers Accessibility Commission plans social-media outreach for Disability Pride Month

The Danvers Accessibility Commission discussed plans to publicize Disability Pride Month in July and agreed to produce short, social‑media–friendly content for posting by town communications staff.

Commissioner Christie raised the topic at the commission's April 24 meeting and said town communications coordinator Jen Breaker had offered to place commission content on municipal feeds if material were provided in the appropriate image/slide format. “If we had things that we got into an Instagram or Facebook size, we could give them to her ahead of time,” Christie said.

Members proposed several post ideas: a short series introducing the commission and its mission, “by‑the‑numbers” demographic slides about disability in town, educational slides on specific conditions or assistive devices, and event promos tied to local screenings or programs. The commission generally preferred multiple discrete posts across July over a single, long post to maximize visibility.

A resident who spoke during public comment, Neil, offered to help amplify posts on social media; he said he has a large following on TikTok and volunteered to re-post commission content. “I have like a couple, almost 60,000 followers on TikTok,” Neil said.

Members agreed to draft content individually, share written material with the chair, and have the chair or a volunteer compile, format and forward the final slides to town staff for scheduling. There was no formal vote recorded.
